Dog Training Tools & Calculators

Eleven free tools that turn the research behind our written guides into something you can use today. Each one asks about your dog and your routine, then returns a specific answer rather than general advice — a printable schedule, a threshold distance, a realistic timeline, or the single habit costing you the most progress.

Am I on track?

Dog Training Progress Calculator

Realistic week ranges for twelve behaviors, your progress against the expected curve, and a plain diagnosis if you are stalled.

Build my schedule

Puppy Potty Training Planner

A full hour-by-hour toilet and nap schedule from your puppy’s age and routine, plus a readiness score for your current habits.

Check my recall

Dog Recall Reliability Calculator

Scores the six things that decide whether your dog comes back, with a deliberately strict off-lead readiness check.

Score my walks

Loose-Leash Walking Calculator

Seven factors behind pulling, including what the equipment research actually measured. Quality of walking, not length.

Assess my dog

Dog Obedience Assessment

Six cues rated by proofing level, weighted by safety consequence, with the handling habits that break them.

What is my dog saying?

Dog Body Language Decoder

Tick the signals you can see and get a weighted reading across six states. Built around the one owners miss most.

When does this end?

Dog Adolescence Timeline

See exactly where your dog sits on the developmental arc and how many months of adolescence are left.

Build me a session

Dog Training Session Builder

A minute-by-minute script with rep counts, success criteria and stop conditions — and a refusal if the session would set you back.

What size crate?

Dog Crate Size Calculator

Two measurements return the exact standard crate size, the divider setting for a growing puppy, and when a crate is the wrong tool.

What size harness?

Dog Harness Size Calculator

Chest girth and neck give you the size band, the collar size, and whether you need a front clip, a back clip or an escape-proof design.

How big will they get?

Dog Adult Size Predictor

Current weight and age estimate your puppy’s adult size, growth percentage, and when the growth plates close.

What these tools do differently

Most dog training calculators return a number with no explanation of where it came from. These do three things that matter more:

They separate evidence from our own model

Every result shows two things side by side: the externally sourced findings used, each with a link to the study or organization, and a plain statement of which numbers are PawMastery’s own scoring model. We do not present our weightings as science, because they are not.

They refuse to score when scoring would be wrong

Tell the recall tool your dog’s behavior changed suddenly, or the potty planner that there is blood in the urine, and you get no score at all — you get a recommendation to see a vet. A tidy number is the wrong output for a dog that may need treatment.

The same applies to the loose-leash tool: if you describe trigger-specific lunging, it stops and tells you that is reactivity, not pulling, because the standard pulling advice can make reactivity considerably worse.

They give conservative answers on safety

The recall tool will not clear an adolescent dog for off-lead work even with perfect answers, because the regression between six and eighteen months is well documented. A tool that tells you what you want to hear about off-lead safety is worse than no tool.

Privacy

Everything is calculated in your browser. No account, no email, no data sent to a server, nothing stored. You can share a result by copying the link — the answers are encoded in the URL itself, and nothing is saved anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Are these tools free?

Yes, with no signup and no email required.

Can these tools diagnose my dog?

No. They provide educational training estimates. Aggression, sudden behavior changes, and anything with a possible medical cause need a veterinarian or a qualified behaviorist.

Where do the scores come from?

Each tool has a methodology section explaining every weighting, and separates published findings from PawMastery’s own model. Nothing is hidden.

Do you store my answers?

No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is transmitted or saved.

Which tool should I start with?

If you have a puppy, the potty planner. If you have an adult dog and are not sure where you stand, the obedience assessment. If you are wondering whether your progress is normal, the progress calculator.

Methodology and limitations

Every scoring model on this site was built for these tools by PawMastery. The weightings are informed by published veterinary behavior research — AVSAB, AKC, ASPCA, RSPCA and peer-reviewed studies, all cited on each tool page — but the models themselves are ours and are not clinically validated instruments.

We are not veterinarians and we do not claim veterinary credentials. Where a result suggests a medical cause, the tools say so and stop.

These tools provide educational training guidance and do not replace advice from a qualified veterinarian or certified behavior professional. Last reviewed: 18 August 2026.
